A muffle furnace is a high-temperature, front-loading laboratory or industrial oven used for controlled thermal processing. It indirectly heats materials inside an insulated chamber, completely isolating the sample from combustion byproducts, gases, and direct contact with heating elements.

- Working Principle: Heat is generated by electrical resistance elements (such as Kanthal, Silicon Carbide, or Molybdenum Disilicide) located outside the isolated “muffle” chamber. Heat is then transferred evenly via radiation and convection.
- Temperature Range: Standard metallic-wire furnaces reach 1,000 to 1,200, while advanced elements can reach up to 1,800.
- Applications: Primarily used for ashing (burning away organic material), annealing, sintering, glass melting, heat treating metals, and materials research.
