Potassium Iodide (KI) Starch indicators are diagnostic tools, often in paper form, that change color from white to blue/black to detect oxidizing agents like chlorine, iodine, and peroxides. Used heavily in water quality testing and sanitizing (100–300 ppm range), they provide rapid visual confirmation of oxidation.
Using the Indicator Papers:
- Procedure: Dip the strip into the solution for 1–2 seconds and remove, shaking off excess liquid.
- Results: A color change to blue or purple indicates a positive result.
- Reaction Time: Peroxides and chlorine react immediately, while iodine requires about 60 seconds to produce a distinct color change.
