Strong, Lightweight Modern Materials
Functional Applications
This wedge-type 9-liter spirometer is tailored for A-level, medical, and university instruction in spirometry fundamentals. Applications include measuring:
-
Basal metabolic rate during/following exercise
-
Vital capacity subdivisions of lung volume
-
Inspiratory and expiratory reserve volumes
-
Effects on ventilation from rebreathing CO2
-
Hyperventilation impact on breathing patterns
Design & Features
-
Construction: Manufactured from modern, durable materials with a float pivot and counterbalance to maintain precise motion across measurement ranges.
-
Measurement & Recording: Features a float capacity scale with a pointer for direct visual comparison, an internal sealed thermometer for tracking float gas temperature, and an internal pen attachment point for chart recording.
-
Valves & Tubing: Includes a two-way valve to toggle subjects between atmospheric air and the spirometer system to establish normal breathing rhythms. Uses 30mm flexible corrugated tubing connected via a unidirectional valve, alongside small-bore tubing for tank drainage and oxygen flushing.
-
Canister: Outfitted with a removable vertical soda-lime canister for closed-system CO2 studies (can be bypassed if needed).
